I bought a goldfish just before Christmas. It was mostly the usual orange color, but had a black stripe down its back and black dorsal and caudal fins. As the time passed, the black disappeared. It didn't just fade, either. It moved steadily upward, then it was gone. First the stripe went away, then the bottom edges of the fins weren't black any more, then they were only half black, eventually it looked like just some black markings on the fins tips, and now nothing. It just looks like a normal goldfish.
Does anybody know what happened here?

Wow, that is pretty weird. No idea what it could be. It doesn't seem like anything to worry about though. Maybe it's just a type of fish that is dark when younger and gets orange as it ages, or maybe it was some type of stress or breeding stripe?

I think goldfish do change their colour/markings as they get older, a friend of mine got one recently and that's what she was advised . I wouldn't worry about it, personally.. -Flash

I've had a few goldfish in my life and somethiing similar to this has happened to most of them. Like it was mentioned before, I think the color just tends to fade and get lighter as they get older.
