Okay, as the title says, we seem to have a single Danio that has gone AWOL. I don't know, exactly how long we've had him. Probably close to, or just under a year I think, and have not had problems until recently.
How long have you had your fish?
Not sure. Under a year?
Have you made any changes recently – tank size, food, water source, conditioners, etc?
Yes, (rearranged tank, new tankmates, new silk plants, because the plastic ones were ripping poor Claudius' fins) but problem started before any of these changes.
Does he (or she) have any tank mates?
Yes. Keep in mind, this is not my tank, its my sister's and my mom's, and I really tried to warn them about over crowding...
(This is a total count... the AWOL danio is a leopard one)
3 leopard danios
3 zebra danios
1 betta
1 pleco
3 angelfish
What size is the tank and is it filtered? Is it cycled? (A small tank that gets complete water changes won't be.)
20 gal, filtered and cycled.
How often do you change the water and what conditioners/water treatments do you use?
Not as often as we should... probably about 25-30% every 2 weeks? Use AquaPlus water conditioner, and 1/2 tsp aquarium salt/gal.
Are you currently using any medication?
Nope, just minimal amounts of aquarium salt to keep the badies away.
What do you feed your fish, how much, and how often?
Danios/Angelfish: NutrafinMax Tropical Fish food, two largish pinches, twice a day.
Nutrafin Max betta flakes. One tiny pinch, twice a day
Pleco: Half of a Hikari algae eater tablet, once a day
*Only the pleco gets fed on Sundays.
What is the water temperature? (All betta owners should know this and should have a thermometer to monitor it.)
Last I checked it was about 80F
What are the pH and ammonia levels? (Also nitrate and nitrite levels if it is a cycled tank.)
Haven't tested lately. Last time Ammonia was 0, Nitrates were <5 (Lost manual for nitrites test.. anyone have directions for Hagen nitrites test for me? )
Describe your fish’s symptoms and your concerns. How long have they been present and have the symptoms changed?
Well, basically... he's psycho. Before we got the silk plants (about a week and a half ago) he was being totally abused by the other two danios that we had. His tail got pretty badly shredded, and I brought it up on here, but no one seemed to have an answer, and I didn't know what to do, so I just... left it alone. Then, two days ago we got three more danios (and 3 angel fish, yeah, I know, bad...) and he is harrassing all of them, as far as I can tell, though it might only be the new ones...
Overall, none of the danios seem to be schooling. They did at first, and now they are all scattered. The only good thing about it is, they are all leaving my betta well enough alone (the angelfish cower in his wake... muhahahahah! j/k.)
Will this psychotic Danio episode end? Is there anything I can do to get these silly fish to school? And, the $10,000,000 question.... am I feeding the pleco enough?
