when I went to bed last night the tank was a toasty 80 degrees and the pilot light was shining bright...woke up this morning and the pilot was out and the temp in the tank was hovering around 70 ...brrrrrrrrrrr Poor Pig spent a chilly night. Thankfully I had just gotten another Hagen to replace on of the 7.5w Jr heaters I had in another tank. Now that winter is appproaching (at least in north america )...be sure to check your temps and heaters every morning!

Excellent reminder:) Next time I order I think I'll get a couple extras... Do you remember how old that heater was (the one that died)? Just curious....I don't remember if Hagen warranties their heaters for a length of time...

I bought that heater in June of this year.
Hagen has a great 1 year warranty on any problems outside of glass breakage....as long as you have a dated receipt to send in with it. I'm sending it back today...so I'm hoping to see a replacement within 2 weeks.
I will keep you posted on how the return goes.

There was one horribly embarrassing (and costly ) day last year when I dropped not one, but TWO hagens during water changes. Talk about learning your lesson the hard way. At least it wasn't very cold at the time and my guys were ok until replacements arrived.

Oh no! Poor Pig. I have a Hagen going in Splashes' tank now, and I can't count how many times I check the thermometer per day! ;D I am so worried about the temps changing that I check it every time I walk by. And now I will continue to do so.....

Poor little guy. At least you caught it when you did and weren't out of town or something when it happened. How common are defective heaters I wonder?

well, I just had another GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR The whisper 10-30gallon heater (I don't know the wattage for sure, I'm assuming 50w) that I had in my 29 quit working last night, after I moved it to my 10 g snail grow out tank. The pilot won't stay on for more than a minute...I've got it cranked all the way and its barley keeping the tank at 72...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr It didn't seem to be keeping my 29 warm enough...that's why I replaced it with a Hagen (man, I love those!!)...but it was still keeping it above 76...so I dunno what its problem is now. I guess I'll have to go pick up another Whisper at wally today.
