Ok, this might be a really stupid question, but I'm getting a little worried. I want to move my betta from his tank over to the 6 gallon aquarium, and one of the guys from work suggested that I got him two cory "friends". He said that corys prefered to be kept together, but it was ok as long as I had two, and it didn't matter if they were different kinds. Anyway, I went to my local petco to get two cories. The girl there got me an albino and one which she called a spotted cory. However, he doesn't look anything like the spotted cories I've seen online. His behavior is very different from the albino; the albino stays at the bottom of the tank most of the time, while the spotted on likes to sit on the glass next to the heater on "upside down" on a big rock which has a hole in it. I tried to get a pic of him, but I'm afraid he's kinda hard to photograph: Can anyone tell me if this guy really is a spotted cory, and if not, is he some kind of monster that will grow big and eat all the other fish?

Yoyo loach Thank you so much! Yikes.... Boy, do I feel stupid How big is he going to get? What does he eat? Is he ok with being by himself without any other yoyos? Is he going to eat the other guys? Sorry for all the stupid questions Maybe I should just take him back to the store, but I feel like he's my responsibility now....

This should have what you need, without me having to type it all out: badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile79.htmlAs for the food, loaches tend towards the carnivorous side, but yoyos can almost be considered omnivorous. A mix of worms, shrimp pellets, and spirulina tabs should work well enough. I wouldn't recommend jsut giving him a generic tropical flake. Basicall, his diet will overlap with the corys =)

Thanks Hrm... it looks like my tank is too small. I definitely don't have room for three of these guys. The also adds another complication since he was bought to keep the albino cory company..... Do you guys have any advice for me? Would I be torturing both of them if I just kept them in my 6 gallon with the betta? What a mess.....

They're both docile, and the cory and loach might even keep each other company. Over the short term, you might not need a companion for either the cory or the laoch, but in the future you could look towards getting a community tank.

Thank you so much for your advice. I guess they'll have to live like this for a while Maybe I can get a bigger place for them at some point. I really do hope they'll be ok and not too sad

I think both will do fine alone, especially in a smaller tank.
Both fish are not good cycle fish, so keep up on your water changes until your ammonia and nitrates read zero...you might want to add an airstone until the cycle is done and pick up a bottle of Cycle (by Hagen) to help the nitrifying bacteria flourish faster.

I think both will do fine alone, especially in a smaller tank. I sure hope so to It looks like they're eating, so I hope they're fine! Well, I was putting ammonia in the aquarium to get it to cycle (without the fish in there of course ), but my friend had some liquid nitrifying bacteria in his fridge, so I got some of them in my biowheel. I was a little sceptic about it, but [NH3]/[NO2-] have been close to zero since then. I measure the concentrations twice a day (I'm a bit paranoid), and so far it looks good I also have an airstone and some plants in there, so I hope they are getting enough oxygen.....

Hrm..... I just checked another forum and they say that he's a Synodontis nigriventris (an Upside Down Catfish). I totally can't tell from the pictures I've seen.... I wish I actually knew something about fish..... maybe it'll be easier to tell when he gets older.... I haven't see him swimming upside down though.... In any case, it looks like he won't get bigger than 4 inches, so I'll keep him. I've already named him (Bruce), and it would be so sad to take him back. It look like he has a very nice personality (in a sitting-still-upside-down-all-the-time kind of way )

that'll do it. you don't have to worry, you are pretty much cycled. Do weekly water changes and you should be fine.

They're right. From the angle you took the picture, it looked like a yoyo loach. When I look closer I do see the trademark lateral line dots that the upside down catfish have. My mistake =)

Thanks Ok, so he's an upside down fish... I guess that's ok to... I haven't really seen him doing anything except sitting upside down, so I hope he's getting something to eat. The cory eats a lot. I just hope there is a little left for upside-down-Bruce
