okay, I just bought a 10 gallon tank, its cycling, so I think I have sometime on deciding what fish to keep. I am definitely going for guppies but I don't want to make it an all-guppy tank. any suggestions, I'd prefer to keep lifebearing fish in this 10 gallon tank, or if possible smaller fish.
Thanks -bettons

It's impossible to simply "suggest" fish for a 10 gallon. The best way to do this, is to go to your local fish store. Look at all the fish there, but take a good look at ones which don't get more than about 2" long. Look for peaceful ones -- if any are aggressive then don't consider them.
After you get an idea of what you like, come back here and we'll tell you how well a certain mix of fish would do in a 10 gallon. Then, you can do some research so you're familiar with their care requirements.

alright.
I decided to just make it a guppy tank since most of the fish that I found suitable for a 10 gallon tank are rather small, so I will probably stick with the guppies until I upgrade to a 20 gallon tank in the near future.
P.S. Approximately how many guppies can I keep in a 10 gallon tank? I've head some stories of people keeping 15 guppies in a 10 gallon tank and saying that this is not even near overstocking, this sounds dangerous to me.

8 or 9 is usually the limit once you factor in room to grow and space taken up by plants and aquascaping.
