Hi! I got some new ghost shrimp. They have white stuff inside of them that is different than my other ghosties. It almost looks like a brain and rib cage or a white heart and white 'bead' skeleton thingy (yep, Mrs. Technical! LOL). I'm not sure how to explain it. I don't think it is food, as they eat the flakes and other things and it shows up, but the white structure is still there. I've googles and asked, and there doesn't seem to be anything on this. I just want to make sure that they are not sick or something. Thanks.

If you can get a picture of the shrimp it would be helpful.
Just as general information, ghost shrimp only really become opaque in two situations:
1. about to die 2. about to molt
...and I can't say for certain that it's either of those situations without seeing the shrimp in question.

I have two ghost shrimp. The description you've put is exactly the same as my shrimp- one is bigger than the other and the larger one has the exact same features. He seems the happiest in the tank. Always dancing around and eating. I hope that relaxes you abit.

I just got two ghost shrimp too. I've got them in w/ my female betta and since the shrimp eat flakes and freeze-dried food, is it ok to let them eat what the betta doesn't? or do I need to feed them extra when the betta isn't hungry? thanks for any information!

As scavengers, ghost shrimp seem to know when there's food being put into the tank and will immediately try to get some of it. Letting them eat the extra food from your betta is just fine. Although be careful not to overfeed solely for that purpose, as bettas would eat forever if they could and she might get too much food. When kept alone ghost shrimp love sinking algae wafers, but I'd be concerned that your betta may try to eat it as well.
How does your betta get along with them so far? Do you have any aeration in the tank for the shrimp?
