I use Aqua Safe by Tetra for my water conditioning. Unfornuately, I cannot locate Prime anywhere. Today, while buying a HUGE bottle (I've been doing an obscene amount of water changes lately), I noticed a new product called Easy Balance. Tetra claims this product will reduce the number of water changes by adding "nitrite reducing grandules", among other "balancing" chemicals. I'm a sucker for new products to improve the water quality for my fish, but not stupid enough to believe all the claims. Anyone have any experience with this product yet?

No, I'm afraid I haven't heard anything about this product yet, but it appears as though other similar formulas are also hitting the market. I'd be interested to hear if anyone tries this and if they notice any differences with their tank.

From my web page, Water Changes article: You've probably seen the miracle "no more water change" products. Let me tell you that while they can be useful, you need to understand what they do first. Some of them actually act as legitimate sources of: pH buffers, electrolytes, minerals and such. And in that respect, the can be beneficial for your fish. The more important question (which I as of yet do not have an answer to) is whether or not these products reduce the presence of nitrate, phosphate, and other unwanted organics which build up over time in the aquarium. If they do manage to eliminate unwanted organics then I'd be a bit more inclined to use them, and more inclined to recommend them. For the moment, I'll say this: You won't be "hurt" by using one of these products, but do not RELY on them to do your tank maintenance for you. A product which adds pH buffers, minerals and electrolytes has the potential to better maintain the water quality in your aquarium. If you use this type of product, use it with the intention of keeping the water quality higher between water changes, rather than trying to prolong the time between water changes. Fish live in water, and to them water is everything. So keep it clean, do regular maintenance, and don't be lulled into a sense of laziness because a product claims that it's OK to be. s94779296.onlinehome.us/website/Fish/

What I have heard of Easy Balance is that it "works" better in cycled and stabilized tanks, to preserve ideal conditions and not to "save" the tanks from a disaster or lazyness.

That's how I see this product, too. If it will improve the quality between my normal maintenance schedule, then great. I don't see it as a replacement for regular water changes, although I'm sure alot of people might. Interesting note - I read the full disclosures on the bottle last night, and it indicates that this product cannot be used in low oxygen environments. Doesn't then, sound like something you would use outside of a cycled tank with plenty of oxygen via filter displacement and airstones. I'm inclined to pass (why deplete your oxygen reserves?).
