Hey everyone, I'm Renee... I've been reading the threads about fishless cycling to prepare me for cycling a 10-gallon divided tank, however, I was wondering if I had the right kind of ammonia to do it with...
I read somewhere else on the internet that Albertson's own brand of ammonia was OK to use. The label says "Pure Ammonia," but it does foam a bit when shaken. My mom has some ammonia (Wal-Mart brand) that says it contains ammonia and a chelating agent. It does the same thing as far as foaming is concerned.
I'm confused. If any of you have brand recommendations or a suggestion, I'd greatly appreciate the help. I can't wait to get my fishies into their new home.
Thanks.

Try a hardware store. You want pure ammonia (aqueous ammonium hydroxide.)
Basically, if it says "pure ammonia" and it foams, then it has a surfactant (foaming agent) added to it, and it's not really pure ammonia.
