Just a little update.. I had my surane (sp) wrap, and some towels around his tank and the temp wentup a little. i could also feel some moisture around the outside of his tank whcih means its warming i think. unfortuantely i have no lamp small enoigh to fit over top, so i have to use my desktop lamp.. so his tank has been transfered to my desk here. the lamp is about 1.5 feet above his tank and then 1.5 feet to the right of his tank.. so its not direct or anything.
I am a little freakedout tho.. hes swiming around a bit more. if he doesnt like the light he has plenty of places to hide from it, because hes done it before. we'll see how well this goes tonight and if i dont feel comfortable with it i'll put him back to where he was. ive taken the towels off and the wrap off just incase that makes the temp riase to high/fast.. and then tonight ill wrap him up.
I think he's bored, he doesnt have much to look at anymore. atleast when he was up higher he had my whole room to survey along wtih the outside window.

guess he likes warmer water....
as a wise betta breeder told me a long time ago.
"it is a mistake to assign human understanding and interpretation to betta behavior"

It means the moisture/humidity is staying inside the tank in a boundry layer. This is a good thing and helps keep the tank temp more constant.

I'm reading some of the articles on the HB site, and it says you shouldnt use a heater for a tank thats 1gal or under, as its not safe. mine is about 1 gal.. so maybe i shouldnt be getting a heater.
So far its hard to find a heating pad.. but heating pads seem like a safety risk etiher. Dont want to burn my parents house down.

If you keep reading on the forum, you'll find that Rachel and I have both successfully and safely used heaters in 1 gallon tanks for quite a while:) But I do recommend the Hagen 25 watt heaters - very reliable.

*raises hand* I've successfully used a 25W Hagen mini-submersible in both a .75 and .5 gallon tank. All with careful monitoring, of course.
Don't try getting out of buying a heater. *puts on stern mommy face* Your boy is swimming around more because his water is warmer and leads to more activity. Both of my fish swim around constantly. One of them zips around the tank, dances around, and continues swimming laps. The only time the both of them are still are when they're sleeping.
