For anyone that lives in NY. The Petco in Farmindale across from K-Mart has an impressive display of YOUNG male bettas. Most were in small cups but were in excellent condition. Although I'm interested in half moons, I always stop to look at each and every betta. They had some in the Betta Lounge display and more towards where the tanks are kept in the rear of the store. They had the nicest looking male in a drum bowl perched atop the plant display in the middle of the tank. He was under a warm light and look so healthy.
What struck me about this male; he was a true red and blue (bicolor) male. The blue was dark royal navy and the red was deep red. It wasn't red or blue wash that you often see in many pet shops. I had to tell myself, "I have bettas at home that need water changes, I haven't had a vt in years, I don't want to breed veils". That boy was so healthy and around 4 months old with the nicest finage. He had a nice stocky body but I could tell he was young. I bet someone took him home today. I hope that they keep him warm.

Sounds like he must have been a nice fish to catch your eye starlight. Every now and then we get some unique stock in the stores around here and Petsmart tends to carry young males a lot. Nice females are still hard to come by locally though at retail stores, which isn't surprising.
