I have noticed that there are 2 types of aquarium silk plants you can buy regarding the stems. Some have stiff stems that can be bent and others do not. With the stiff stems, I have been able to bend them apart, so there is room for a Betta to swim thru. The other stems, I can't bend them apart and I am concerned that a Betta could get caught up on them. Am I describing this well? I am wanting to know if the plants without stiff stems are safe for Bettas.

I would think if you feel a plant would be unsafe, then maybe skip it. I usually buy all of my silk plants by Sea Garden and am not sure which category they would fit into for you. Possibly the non-stiff stems? Some of the stems are quite close together and can't really be positioned differently, but I have never had a problem with any of my fish trying to swim through them.

Where do you find the Sea Garden silk plants? I can't seem to find a store that has more than one style. Most are very small and look pitiful in a larger tank (designed for a goldfish bowl)

I love to use the Sea Garden silk plants. They look much better than the plastic ones that look flourescent and Sea Garden varieties are pretty realistic (compared to those plastic ones). I think that petsmart has them.

Yes, Petsmart carries Sea Garden plants. They have a wide variety of sizes (for large aquariums, they even have some they recommend for "background" or "foreground" - also different colors and leaf types, which is good for me as some of my bettas appear to "know" which color leaf they become invisible in...

I have been buying my plants from PetSmart (best selection in my area.) After I lost Lambert, I have become paranoid. I have taken to mixing and matching plant parts. I guess I was just in need of some reassurance.
