i have my betta in a 5 gal eclipse and i really want to put a couple more fish in with him, the tank looks so barren with only mr purple betta. i have had many warnings not to put glo-fish (AKA "glowing" zebra danios) in with my betta, because they are fin nippers. at the pet store today i saw the glo-fish and they didnt look as good as they did 2 weeks ago (maybe because i cant really put them in with mr purple?) but the glowlight tetras were quite pretty (and pink!) so i would like to add those to my betta tank. would that be ok, are they generally "fin safe"? (ugh i hope so! any feedback would be great!! thanks in advance

I'm not sure if they would get along. I know that tetras generally tend to be very active fish, and some may nip fins. (I don't know about glowlights in particular.)
However, I don't think you'd have enough room in a 5 gallon tank for your betta and the tetras. Tetras generally should be kept in schools of odd numbers of 5 or more fish, and trying to fit a school of that size along with a betta would be overstocking, in terms of your biological filter. Also, depending on the length of your tank, the glowlights might not have enough space to swim.

Tetras can be fin nippers, especially nice flowing fins. It is funny, I have a betta, Sigfried, who is in an aquarium with some zebra danios and they get along fine. They have been together for quite some time, and no problems. I have lots of artificial plants and the zebras seem more interested in darting in and out of the hiding places and playing tag with each other than bugging Sigfried. I suppose every situation is different.

Yup, you heard right, danios are fin nippers and cause a lot of problems for your betta. (on the other hand, they might mind their own business) It's a scary chance to take, especially if your betta comes out on the losing end. (literally)
Jedicat had a great point, 5 gal is not big enough for a school of danios and a betta. I have four at home (yes, I should have five) who have a 10 gal they share with 2 black mystery snails and I'm just about fully stocked. Basically, I can get one more 2" fish... and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to get.
Maybe you could get a larger tank for the glo-fish to be kept without a betta.
