I know there's a particular brand of heater some of you have had problems with - was it Visi-therm, by any chance? I'm not using one, but a friend of mine has one and er, would like to know before she uses it TIA, -Flash

Yes it was the Visi-Therm that was over-heating my 3 gallon tank (5 gallon tank filled with 5 1/2" of water)
I decided not to use it and bought a 25w Hagen sub. It's just as long as a Visi but is much slimmer and unobtrusive. I followed the directions to the letter, it's so simple.
I'm cycling a 5 gallon spawn tank. The tank is running at 80 degrees and when I put the breeders in it'll be set to 82. The Hagen comes on for a few minutes, heats the water and shuts itself off. The temp gauge reads a constant 80.
What a nice easy to use, inexpensive heater!

Fortunately for me, Spring seems to have sprung in my part of this blue marble, so hopefully the heaters can get a rest as I prepare to upgrade.

I live in Scotland, so Spring brings... rain. And 12*C/54*F weather! Heaters all year round for me... -Flash
