Has anyone ever heard of using heated seedling mats to heat Betta bowls? There are some available with temp control (Hydrafarm). I saw seedling mats suggested on an Australian Betta forum and I'm thinking of ordering some. I just don't want to fry any fish or burn the house down. They are waterproof and sound pretty safe. Anyone on this board have any experience with these?

that's an idea I never thought of. It would defiantly be safer than a regular heating pad.

Calicocat, I have read here somewhere about successfully using seedling mats as heaters for small bowls and tanks. I'm not sure if the person who posted about it several months back is still active on the boards...and while we're in the midst of reorganizing the forum it's probably not the best time to try searching old posts although you could try... But I do recall that seedling mats worked well; at the time I was considering getting some but opted for heaters and slightly larger tanks instead.
