For those living in the northern hemisphere, a reminder to check your aquarium thermometers.... the outside temperature in my area dropped to 42 degrees this morning and when I checked my tanks I found that several had also dropped a degree or two. It depends on what heaters you use, but I use the Hagen thermals that have no thermostat, just an up/down control, and it became clear this morning that the heat in the tank was partially due to my (warmer, until today) room temperature. So, everyone's heater got a click up and now we're all back to a toasty 78

The Thermal Compact heater has an internal thermostat. It just doesn't have the temperature marked in degrees. It uses an up down adjustment instead. I'm very pleased with the operation of the Hagen heaters. I have a more expensive Reno Cal Excel heater but prefer the Hagan in my small < 3G spawning tank.

I like the Hagens, too - but a couple of mine were installed during the warmer summer months and only had to contend with room temps in the mid-70's.... and yes, I know 42 is balmy compared to the frigid northeast... why in the world do you think I live in the south?!?!?!?!

My boat sank, so it's only brisk here, instead of freezing.
