I've heard a lot about uneaten food falling to the bottom of the tank, rotting, and then making the fish sick. I feed my betta Tetra BettaMin, which is in flake form. Little bits of it fall to the bottom every time I feed and then get into the gravel where I can't see them to get them out. I don't overfeed, it's just that some little pieces fall almost instantly. My question is, does flake food rot?

My question is, does flake food rot? Yes, it does. Putting too much food in the water will have the following effects: 1. ammonia level will rise 2. the number of harmful bacteria and fungi will increase ...the combination of the two can contribute to making your fish sick. That's not to say they're all going to die if you overfeed, but if you don't practice good maintenance then things will build up over time.
