my betta eats very well. he's never not eaten one of his pallets, and always pretty much eats it right away. but i've been reading that they need a varied diet. if he's doing well w/the pellets, should i leave it alone and just be consistent? wouldn't they get finicky w/varied foods? i've had him since this summer, but my friend who gave him to me had it for...maybe 6 months before that and he's always had the same diet. whacha think?

The reason why it is recommended that bettas get a varied diet because sticking to the same food can cause digestive problems for them such as constipation.

If possible get the smallest size if you're trying new foods. I tried brine shrimp and bloodworms (both freeze dried) on Dude and he refused to eat them. But he never had a digestive problem

Just as a suggestion (you may do this already) but one thing that also helps prevent constipation is fasting him one day in the week every week (some also may feed a bit of cooked pea just to clean it out). But a varied diet does help with preventing digestive problems along with making sure that your fish is getting all the nutrients he requires (all foods aren't created equal).
