hi,
i got a new betta yesterday arvo and was just after some specific advice on water temp and feeding.
i have him in a 9 letre tank which due to the combined effects of the light, filter and ambient temp is sitting about 30 dC or 86 dF. is this too hot? If not when is too hot and how do i cool him down?
I have been unable to find any frozen bloodworm at the moment and this is what i intend to feed him on. Until I can get some i have resorted to catching the little midge type flies that sit on top of our pond and freezing them. he ignored them at first but i waved one around his face on a pair of tweezers and he ate it instantly, now he comes over to me the moment i take the lid off. My question really is are these flies a good idea to be feeding him? and also when getting a flake food what should i look for...the person at the petshop tried to sell me a goldfish food and whilst i can tell this in not suitable i dont know how to pick out what is.
I am also a little concerned about one of his fins. Geez this is long...sorry.
he was shipped from Queensland to Victoria which would have been at least 3hrs on the plane plus another hr or more each side by car and it seems as though his fin has been ripped at some stage. is there anything i should do to stop it becoming infected or to help it heal as fast as possible?
any advice/help anyone can offer will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Kiara
