Well, I hope you can help me as well. I just recently purchased 2 male bettas, and am quite content wiith them.So today, my friend comes over with a plastic baggie, and says she heard all about my new fish, and brought them a girlfriend! This fish has horizontal stripes across its body, and little color, in the light you can see just a bit of blue or red around the fins. So, I'm trying to figure out if it's a betta or a plakat, or what. It does have the white dot. Any help would be appreciated. Here's a pic, sorry for the poor quality.

Tthanks so much, all the pics I'd seen didn't show such huge horizontal stripes, of course, the pics are from breeders' stock shops and I have a feeling this gal came from a more dubious source. I guess she'll be my little girl in the gruop from now on! When my friend brought her to me, she was VERY disappointed that I put her in a separate tank, I guess she thought they could all cohabit...NOT! Guess I'll name her Trouble, though it proabably is a name better suited to my friend than the fish! BTW, the 3 horizontal stripes have almost completely disappeared!

minni1...a female betta's feelings as well as her stripes can change in a betta-second. You won't see horizontal stripes on a breeder's homepage or stock shop. You might see vertical barring on stock shop females. I'm glad to hear that she is settling in and the stripes are nearly gone. It wasn't the stripes plus I can't see her ovipostor. The body shape, fairly full belly, and the shape of her fins would allow one to draw this conclusion..
ps. if you can, post another pic when she's all settled in, Her fins will be more open and her color will show better.

Horizontal lines are from stress. Breeding lines are vertical.
