Horatio died Friday morning, after a long bout of illness that we finally (and too late) diagnosed as an intestinal blockage. He was so brave at the end...I didn't get to say goodbye, but my husband helped him when it was his time to go.
I feel so horrible that I couldn't do more for him, and I miss my little buddy horribly. He was a wonderful little friend to us both, a gentle spirit and a beautiful soul. We'll never forget him.
Rest in peace, Horatio.

I'm so sorry to hear about Horatio. I'm sitting here sniffling cuz Trumpet died a half hour ago. At least he was lying in my hand when he went... I would have felt awful if I hadn't been able to say goodbye. I'm so sorry and RIP Horatio!

Fish Queen, I'm so sorry about Trumpet. I know he had been ill recently. My thoughts are with you.
It's so hard to lose these little guys. Horatio was our first Betta, and we enjoyed his company so much. I just keep thinking about all the funny little things he did, and I tear up all over again. My husband was there for him at the end, so I'm thankful he didn't die alone.
Maybe our two guys are together somewhere now, feasting on pellets and swimming their little hearts out...

I'm sorry to hear of Horatio passing Sef. He seemed to be such a little sweetheart and brought so much happiness to your family. At least you know he is no longer suffering..
Rest in peace Horatio.

Awwwwww, man, I can't believe Horatio is gone. I was following your string and hoping that he would pull through. I'm so sorry, sef. And FishQueen, I can't believe all you've been through. Poor little Trumpet. I'm sad for you both. But your guys are happy now ... little souls in big waters! Hang in there, you two AuntieM

Thanks, all of you, for your kind words. I really believed he would make it, and for a while it seemed he was actually getting better. But then he rapidly went downhill those last couple of days, and at the end it was over very fast.
He was such a joy to know, and I hope to honor him by always having a Betta in our lives. There will never be another Horatio, though.

Sef,
I am so sorry you lost your beautiful Horatio. I have been away from the board lately and was not aware of his illness. The last I remember he was off to a great start and you were fast becoming an expert betta mom. I know he had a happy life, though too short, and you did all you could for him. I'm sure he loved you as much as you loved him.
