My Betta hasn't made a bubble nest in a long long time. He swims around happy all the time just wondering if this is normal? should he be making a nest?

What kind of setup do you have him in? If you have any current on top of the water, he may not want to build. As long as he seems happy and healthy, I wouldn't worry too much.
Sometimes things floating on the surface of the water like live or silk plants will encourage them to build bubble nests

I have rocks, and a silk plant in the bowl along with a few shells at the bottom of the bowl.

ive noticed that my oldest guy isnt doing bubble nests much but hes fine, happy
the plant thing though, that definitely gets some going, though most of mine seem to build away from the plants
i wouldnt worry if he seems fine otherwise
