Cool. Guess he's George. I didn't see any fin rot, but that's A-OK. Didn't see an ovipositor either, so I was just a bit skeptical. Eh, good to know.

Very nice looking fish!
Did I miss something on another thread? Did you think Ira was a girl? Why change his name? Ira is a boy's name.

At first I thought he was a girl because his fins are teeny. Then I didn't see an ovipositor. Duh.

Oh, is he a pretty lavender/blue color? I just love that combo! It's always neat when their ventral fins are a different color from their main coloring also!

Yeah, I think he joined the marines before I got him. I'm amazed that he's acting fine with hardly any fins at all.

Very pretty blue!
I must say, though, that's not "practically no fins at all.." Ares is about at that stage after a month of regrowth - the petstore mistook him for a female when his cup was right next to three others.
Some petstores just suck.

LOL. I'm not going to name names, but this petstore tried to pass him off as a female, then I get him home, and he's not a female and he's got a case of Flex so bad that he's puking white stuff. Also in another tank, they've got a betta with a bunch of tetras! I mentioned how bad his fins looked and the girl said "well, he probably started it" grr... He is doing much better now. He's swimming a big and I don't see much white stuff anymore, so I think he's getting better.

"He probably started it?" !!! (insert laughing incredulously smiley here) Oh my god!!! That goes beyond any "bettas are supposed to be like that," etc line I have ever heard. Maybe the tetras should take him to court...
Oh my...I am going to remember that one for a long time.

Yeah, it made me a bit surprised when she said it and I was tempted to say "it doesn't matter who started it, he's losing!"

Well, with my daughters, the one who starts it gets separated for a while. The pet store should put that betta on "time out" Just not in a dixie cup...

he should be in one of those containers hanging on the side of the tank, or in with anything but fin-nippers.
