Pentecost was named by the coworker I got him from - since red is the traditional color associated with Pentecost in Christianity, I assume that's why He is quite beautiful, and so sociable Thanks for lookin!

It's great to have one who is really friendly; they make such wonderful pets. Bernie is friendly but a little more independent. Josephine is very aloof...mostly ignores us altogether unless food is involved. Napoleon is my baby, my WalMart Betta literally rescued from the brink of death, and he LOVES attention and always does his little Betta dance whenever he sees us. Horatio was a wonderful sweetie, too; he always wanted to see what we were up to.
They're all such individuals....I never knew a fish could have so much personality!

(since you brought it up) When I was first asked to "watch" Pentecost while my coworker went out for a 6-wk medical leave, he was under the roots of a lily. I was told to feed him "every few days or so". She had the instructions from the lilyvase people - she was just doing what it said to do. Pentecost just floated there - no reactions, no nothing. Most boring fish/creature on the planet. She left for her surgery. I removed the lily. Pentecost moved around a little. I got him some different food (she had BettaBites, sort of longish things - none of my guys eat it - and I haven't seen it mentioned here - anyone heard of it?). He likes Biogold Pellets (sorry sef). I took him home the first weekend "to clean his tank". Which I did. First time ever for him, bless his heart. Put him back into a clean, algae-free tank [they had put him next to a bright window = lots of green algae - yuck] with marbles and a plant (silk, not lily ) and he started moving around more and more. Pretty soon he came over to see me when I came into the room. He follows my finger on the side of his tank and absolutely thinks of me as a friend. They all do the "happy supper dance" but Pentecost dances just to say hi. ;D This was Pentecost's journey. So when you say how nice it is when they are friendly - not a day goes by that I don't remember what his life used to be like. I find it a minor miracle that he trusts people at all. But he probably had no idea that he was in lilyvase hell, he just knows he's happy now . But I remember.

ABM - what a great story. I am happy for you and Pentecost to have found each other. I never would have thought these fish (or any fish) could be so friendly and interactive with us humans until I brought one home.

Hi ppv! I especially would never have imagined Pentecost could be as active and as fun as he is, after seeing him stagnating under the lily. But he is happy and I have talked with my coworker and she understands the fish is not coming back to her office. (I told her I'd buy her something else, or I'd get her another fish with instructions on how to REALLY take care of it - but her job changed somewhat so she's busier and doesn't really mind - YAY!)
