yes he's gorgeous, he doesnt have the paler body as seen in most marbles/redish butterflies (or those I have seen at least), his body is solid red... it has just a very small iridescence in the tail, but it's noticed only under certain light conditions. I noticed also that he has something like a "double dorsal" fin, it can be slightly noticed in this pic near the tail, suddenly the dorsal splits in 2 and this other part has an almost 90 degree with the "main" bit of the dorsal. He's quite small actually (he's with me for almost a month now, my other one is a month "older"), and I'm hoping he can get even more pretty... I don't like much to name them but I'm calling him "barrifish" for now as an allusion to the brazilian Formula 1 racer Barrichello, since it looks a bit like the Ferrari car colours....

Oh, I'm glad you re-posted the picture - he is GORGEOUS! But that lovely tank needs a little something...a hidey or plant or something for the little guy, don't you think

yes I'm planning to add something soon... the other tank had a plant that died quite soon so I gave up on plants for a while... I'm not planning to use lights yet (my room is quite sunny as you might have noticed from the pic), so I have to find something more resistant than usual, maybe some java moss I guess. I don't like gravel that much (maybe some marbles), when it's time to clean it's way more complicated... but the other tank has some. My siphon isn't exactly made for such small tanks, and it almost sucks the poor fish along with the water! This tank isn't as big as it seems in the pic, it's just 2L... the betta is really small, he's really a kid... and makes the tank look bigger... The other betta likes to lie on the heater, that's funny to see...

Nice coloring on him. Just curious, where do you buy your bettas? Do you get them from a breeder there?

I bought him in a LFS, but I'm planning to get my next bettas from some local breeders I've found and some other stores that sell HMs and CTs. My other ones (2 dead one still alive, the "half CT" referred in some other post) weren't chosen by me (they were gifts), but this one was my choice so I knew what to look for.
There weren't any "special" bettas in this store like CTs, but I was interested immediately in this one and some other quite similar (less transparent/white parts) that was a bit more active but he was bigger and my plan was to get the smallest (youngest?) betta there. There were actually some nice looking and bigger fishes there (including a pretty black!), but they were so poorly housed that I wouldn't expect them to live that much, so my plan was really to get the smallest betta even if it wasn't the prettiest (but it was!)... when I asked if this one was a butterfly (I wasn't sure - now I know he is) the salesman told me "not really, it's an impure butterfly" (?)... That other one I was interested had some interesting tail that to me was a decent combtail or maybe even a crowntail but the salesman again said "no it's just a bit tore"... it wasn't damaged to me... oh well.
