This is more or less a rant... you guys have got me hooked! I'm craving another Betta... I was planning on saving up my money for a 5 1/2 gallon tank... $37, what a deal, eh? (Well, it's a deal where I come from) Upon further inspection, the tank doesn't come with a filter. Urgh, the darn tank will probably cost me $100 to get finished... and my 10 gallon is still under construction. My temperature hasn't been fluctuating too much... so I think I could hold off on a new tank... but knowing me, if I do get a 5 1/2 gallon, I'll probably go out and buy another betta for my 1 gallon anyways... which is what I went out and did after Don moved into my 10 gallon. I got to thinking though. My friend has a 1 gallon bowl that she doesn't use... if I could somehow get my hands on that, and I have a desk lamp, which I kind of broke once while doing a water change, but anyways, when fixed will heat the water up nicely... Any thoughts, or should I dampen this craving and resume with getting a 5 1/2 gallon as originally planned? All these tanks are going to be fun to drag off with me when I go to university in two years time... assuming they let me take my fish with me... I do not trust my father at all with my tanks

Same price here, but if you get the submersible filter for about $4 at super pet and the floss and charcol for it ($10) and the Elite clamp on 50watt heater for $15 at walmart and a small terracotta pot for 75cents at Canadian Tire you have your basics for $67+tax(7%here) leaving lots for plants to decorate the tank. I am getting 2 more setups like that so the 2 boys sharing my divided 10 gal can have their own space then I am thinking about putting 3 girls with lots of plants in the ten.

The tax is 15% here. I don't know what the cost of filters are at Walmart, but our LPS jacks their prices sky high. Rumor has it our town is going to be getting a Pets Unlimited, lol.
Now that I think about it, I'll have a job this summer (hey, and one of the places I'm applying to is Walmart to work in the pet section...)
But wow, am I ever hooked.

A 5 gallon Mini-Bow setup shouldn't run you much more than $40, even with tax and that DOES come with a filter.

I saw some this summer in the city. I will be making the hour trip up there in a couple weeks and will check out the prices.

Careful of those cravings. I started with a ten gallon tank about 20 years ago. We have a 5 gal and 29 gal in the upstairs bathroom. A 29 in the kitchen and a 150 gal sitting on the landing waiting to be finished. I have gone through 55 gal shows and longs and everything in between. Its almost an addiction. And thats not to mention the 6 one gal betta's. I have a 21yo daughter who's just as bad as me, and between us.....all the tanks. I've been through burn out on too many tanks so I always try to warn people, LOL I love my little guys but have learned restraint. Good luck and follow what you REALLY want.
