Currently I have my water dragon Freaky in a ten gallon but I am getting ready to move him to a 30 gallon setting for him with land and water. But I have been told that you cannot use an aquarium for fish after you have had a reptile in it. Is this true and if so why? Also is there anything that you can do to clean it and make it fish ready?

mandymarie,
I'm not sure about that. I think that as long as you cleaned it especially well that it should be fine. Someone on the board suggested apple cider vinegar and a natural spounge and sun drying for especailly dirty tanks. But maybe someone out there knows better than I about reptile to fish aquarium changes. Good Luck!

Yeah I am not sure heard its something about the bacteria and no one seems to know anything about making one fish ready....I went to the local pet shop and he didn't even know....although that's not surprising he doesnt know much for a pet store owner.

Were you able to find anything out about this? My guess would be that you could bleach it really well and then rinse rinse rinse. That's what you can do with normal fish tanks (if you're careful about it), but with a reptile tank it's just a guess.

I actually found out that the only reason they say not to is because the reptiles will chew at the seals.
