I've got a betta-less tank...so I'd like to get a marble crowntail. Anyone have any recommendations of breeders to look at, or good aquabid sellers. I know I'm going to have to have one shipped. There's no places around me that stock them or will order them.

Thanks Leslie...I've looked at bettatalk before. I'm not too sure what to think of her. She's bold and brassy, and can be very mean to customers if you rub her wrong. Plus, her prices seem awfully high to me. I'm just not ready to pay $150 for a betta, not to mention they are mostly sold in breeding pairs and I don't want or have room for a female...nor any desire to break into breeding yet. I found this guy at aquabid...HE'S SO PRETTY!!! Now don't you all go bid on him too www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwbettasct&1095603309 I emailed the seller and asked about shipping, hopefully its affordable!

Forget BT for all the reasons mentioned and more. Not the least of which is that many of "her" bettas are consignment fish. She's not known as a breeder and doesn't show. She's a showman who makes up strain names for unusual betta colors. It's the first site that many beginners visit. Iirc, she charges for advice!
That's a beautiful crownie. Great color. I hope that you win it.

starlight - you confirmed my suspicions of BT. Thank you. I have that crowntail on my watchlist! ;D He is my second choice if I don't get the turquoise I just have to figure out where I'd put the 6th tank if I got a female LOL

I like the turquoise better plus he's only 3 mos old. Here's another from the same breeder. I really like this one too. www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwbettasct&1095602222 When it comes to ct's there's nothing like the Thai breeders. I had a friend that bred nice show ct's a year or two ago. He had a few multis and opaques that were outstanding. ======================================== As long as wer'e talking about ct's, here's one of my fav bettas, he was an Aquabid auction from Thailand several years ago. Linda was the transhipper. Rachel once told me that she did a Google search for crowntails and up comes this picture of Diablo. Nice male, I had him for about two years and never once netted him. He had so much finnage and wasn't too fast, I'd just scoop him out with my hands. He was so trusting. Diablo...rip (red cambo bf ct)

Hmmmmmmm, what you all say about Bettatalk shocks me . Starlight, what do you mean she is not known as a breeder? Isn't she like the president of the Los Angeles Betta Society? and wasn't "she" featured on animal planet? How do you guys know all of this? By the way, I'm not trying to be rude or anything this just totally shocks me. Lucy

Lucy, not trying to shock you. What I relayed is fairly common knowledge. You can read similar comments on serious betta breeder boards. One thing that you hear quite often is the consignment of bettas and the issue of strain names. Perhaps since Labs (2002) she has done more breeding. Gilbert Limhengco is a Labs member and one of the classic breeders. I had heard that he was breeding again. Years from now when you open a betta book, you'll see pictures of great bettas produced by Gilbert. He's produced knock-out show bettas for decades.
I'm the Election Committee Chairman for my local IBC club. We are about to begin the election process again. For the next two meetings I get to wear this nifty badge they made up for me lol. Our president is not our best breeder, he'd never try to tell you that. He's just the best person to be president of our club.
I hope that this clarifies things.

starlight - you confirmed my suspicions of BT. Thank you. I can also confirm it, but I won't say how. Basically, I was made privy to information that others were not, regarding two well known breeders.

I agree that Aquabid is the way to go if you can't find a good breeder locally. Both of those guys are absolutely gorgeous twoluvcats! ;D I absolutely adore the second guy's coloring myself. Although the first is a cutie and still quite young, not to mention has great coloring as well. I'd better go start bidding! Just kidding. Good luck with the auction!!

Starlight - I am just tickled that you found my 2nd and 3rd choices. I'm happy to know that my "betta eye" is on par with a breeders! I agree, if Starlight recommends someone than they must be good. All of the picks are great! I can't believe I missed that cute black guy the first time. You're a big fan of multi's if I remember correctly, aren't you? This thread is a bad idea for me to keep coming back to as it makes me want more bettas! That's why I don't let myself go to Aquabid much, lol. ;D
