Thanks for the compliment guys but I have to tell you something. When I'm looking at a betta, I usually ask a judge or one of my friends to evaluate it for me.

My club had a show this weekend. I was taken back by the beautiful plakat class. The head judge must have heard my comments and asked me if I wanted a plakat pair. He told me to look in his fish box. There were six plakats but they were in 3" x 6" double bags. I kept looking at them but couldn't make up my mind, since I could hardly see them. I asked the judge to help me decide. He went over each fish, it took about 15 mins. They were all greens but two males were metallic and one was non-metallic. He thought the non-metal was the best. Choosing the female was easier and one had the look that I like. They are both 180 HM's with great ray branching. I named him Teddy Bear. He's a big lug. His body must be nearly 3/4" wide from top to bottom. The female has a small pimple under her mouth. I'm treating her with Kanacyn. I hope I can cure her. I want to breed her with Big Star who is rough with females. I figure this plakat will stand up to him. Big Star is my biggest and toughest male but he wants no part of Teddy Bear. He displayed once for him and decided not to continue. The plakat didn't even do anything and Big star just swam away to the far corner. I guess Big Star is my smartest male too.

Anyway, TwoLuv..the best is the Turq followed closely by the Black Lace. The BL color is rare and looks even better in person. I'm not wild about the indo one and don't like their bettas in general. They aren't in the same class as the Thai breeders. One of the multi's has a fault (indented pendaucle) sp?. It's where the tail meets the body. (One of the problems brought about by breeding for the halfmoon trait.)

I hope that you get one of the two I like. If not they'll always be more next week. Let us know if you get one. If not I'll help look for marbles/multis next week

Funny about Big Star!! ;D

I plan to bid on the turq as soon as I hear back from the transhipper. I just need to know how much I need to budget for shipping. Bidding seems pretty slow on aquabid...so I don't expect to pay much more than $20 for the base bid price on the betta...I just want to make sure its not going to cost me $100 to ship the guy. Hopefully I'll hear from Linda today.

Shipping by Fedex should be around $35. Even if there are more bettas (hehe) it'll be the same price.

$20 would be great but bear in mind, it's an auction. If more than one person loves the fish, it could go much higher. I notice the seller has opening bids on his HM's but not on the ct's. That's good.

I'll give you my Aquabid strategy. I don't bid on a fish until the final minutes. Why draw attention to the betta? Sometimes bidders think, there are no bids, maybe the betta isn't good and they lay off it. I put in my maximum bid with seconds remaining in the auction. If I want to get him for $25, I put a max bid in for $25.09. This way if another bidder has bid $25, I'll still win the auction.

If you haven't bid on Aquabid before, do a test run with your password and max bid to be certain all is fine. Just don't finalize it. If you win one male but the other didn't get bids, you can email the seller and make an offer under the opening bid. (I know, I'm a troublemaker!)
The US side of shipping will be the same.

Big Star, (in my sig) was an Aquabid auction from last year. In many ways, he's my fav betta. He's been a great betta that flares at me and loves to play. I just wish he didn't "change" into a monster when a female is in the tank. He's one of those bettas that really loves you, watches every move that I make. His fins are soooo long that occasionally he'll get a touch of fin rot. I can usually clear it up and he's good even while medicating. I own him but he own's me too and I can't ever be mad at him.

thanks...i've got the auction bidding stuff down. I'm a 500+ feedback seller on eBay And I purchased my snails from aquabid. I never bid before 5 min left...on eBay I use a sniping service. I've been watching stuff that closes on aqubid and not many CTs have gone with multiple bids. I think there very well could have been a biddign war on that pretty white and blue CT tho.

DANGIT ALL!!! I had a fire conference this weekend and was unable to bid on the turq...he didn't get bid on, so I emailed the seller and asked if he was still avalaible...seller says "sorry he's sick, I can't sell him" OK what?!? ...this was less than 5 hours after the auction ended...so if i would have bid on him, the seller would have sold him sick...grrrrrrrrr I DON"T GET IT!!!??!! Plus, I've now 2x emailed the transhipper with no repsonse...so I dont' know what to think of that Bad first round!! grrrrr Plus, there's NOTHING up on aquabid right now that really compares to the turq. Guess I'll have to wait a little longer. <sigh>

ok...i totally took a risk and bought one from a guy from texas off eBay. He sells pool cues and bettas LMAO The price was right tho $26 shipped. And he looks to be pretty good...no negs for his fish (actually all his negs were early on) The picture is not the clearest...but he looks like he has pretty neat coloring. I'm sure he's not perfect...but I have a rag-tag menagerie anyway LOL

I got the little guy on Friday. His shipping took a day longer than expected. Plus, I think he got a little cold. Other than that, he's doing GREAT! I've named him Horus. He's still in his QT tank. I initally was not going to treat him with bettamax, but he was very tired, had a bit of labored breathing and his color was faded, so I decided to throw it in. Poor guy, not only did he have to deal with shipping...but then went from ~sea-level to 7000 feet. The bettamax perked him right up. He's eaten everything I've given to him so far. His tail is a bit ragged...he didn't have much water in the shipping container. He's so tiny...Iv'e gotten used to the 6months+ bettas at walmart/petsmart. This guy is only about 4 months...so he even looks small in a 2 gallon hex LOL He's not as showstopping as the turq I wanted...but he's very pretty. He's got a pink/lavender marble body with red ends on this fins. As soon as I get him out of the blue/green bettamax water, I'll post a pic

His coloring sounds nice, but it was hard to get a clear idea of what it truly looked like in that eBay pic. Can't wait to see a pic of him in his new home!
