ok, it's been about a week since my back moore got sick. his back fin on the left started out with a white spot on it, that white spot grew into a hole, and that hole into a tear all the way down his fin. he's losing a lot of scales and he has a white spot on his first dorsal fin. I thought it was fin rot at first so i got medicine for him, the medicine was one tablet for 4 days and that should have healed him, but it didn't... he just got worse. what is wrong and what should i do about it?

The fin disintigrated could be fin rot, because it's often a secondary infection. The white spots sound like some sort of parasite--is he rubbing on the rocks or plants, or darting? What conditions is he living in? Tank size, pH, temp, nitrate/nitrite?
What sort of medicine did you use for him? With both my goldfish and my bettas, I've had a lot of good luck with the Mardel product line (Maracyn, etc.) and the advantage is you can mix the products, since they're made to be used together. Mardel also includes a 'diagnosis chart' in their boxes, which can help you figure out how to treat your fish. From the sound of it, you are probably going to want a combination of CopperSafe or Maricide with one of the antibiotics. When my fish had a true fungal infection, I used MarOxy with Maracyn to cure it and to prevent secondary infections. With the white spots, yours sounds like he has ick, which they recommend treating with Maracide or Coppersafe, and with Maracyn OR Maracyn II OR Tetracycline to prevent secondary infections like fin rot. Check your local pet store--that's where I find most of my fish medications.
Good luck! Let us know how he's doing!
