For me to assess the condition of the fish pictures work best.
Otherwise, just watch out for infections. If you have melafix, you might want to use some.

The white things on the fishes gills are tubercules. This is when a male is ready to breed. About the scales I have no Idea what is happening.

Icky- Do you still have those goldies in a tropical tank? That could be what's causing your scale loss. They are living with incompatible specieis, at the wrong temperature, being fed the wrong food.

If you haven't yet determined that the scales are actually being lost to disease, take a real close look. As my goldfish have aged, some of their scales have become translucent, giving the appearance of being missing.
