I have two white clouds and 2 oto cats in a 5 gallon cycled tank. It looks like maybe there's either tail nipping going on or maybe some of the fish have fin rot. Are these fish susceptible to fin rot like Betta's are??

ANY fish can get fin rot.
Which fish have fin damage?

it looks like one of the otos looks like he has it on all his fins and both the white clouds have a sort of white frayed look on the dorsel and whatever the fin on the bottom is. I guess I'll go ahead and treat them anyway. I have Jungle Fungus Clear which says it works for fin rot and Maracyn-2 which I used on my Betta when he got it. Which would you sugguest trying or does it matter?

i went ahead took out the carbon filter and treated the 5 gallon tank with the Jungle Fungus Clear. I used 5 tablespoons of solution (1 tablet dissolved in 10 tablespoons of water). I'll wait 4 days and do 25% water change and treat again as directed. How will I know if I need to treat more than that? I don't know if I'll be able to tell if it's working because the fish are so small it will be hard to see if there's growth again. Also, when can I put the carbon filter back in? Will the meds effect any water quality tests that I do?

How will I know if I need to treat more than that? When you see that the edges have healed, then you can stop. Look more closely -- you don't have much of a choice in the matter. When you're done medicating, have done a water change or two, and want to get rid of the last trace of the medication. Yes, in that JFC turns the water blue/green, vial tests will no longer look right.

Thank you so much for the information!!! I'll keep to what I'm doing and see how it goes. Just wanted to update this post. As of June 22 I can already see regrowth on the catfish that had the worst of the fin rot. That Jungle Fungus Clear works like a charm!!
