My mom's eats food that's fallen into the all the time, and he's not had any ill effects or gotten stuck in the rocks.
I wouldn't give him more to stop him from doing it, it's just more waste in the water. When you are ready to feed him, get his attention to the feeding spot, and drop them in one at a time to make sure he eats them, then there's no excess dirtying up the water. How often do you feed him? 6-8 sounds like alot to me, which might account for more being in the rocks and him trying to get them.

Yes, I agree with sawcat....I feed only 2-3 pellets twice a day, and bloodworms once or twice a week. 6-8 pellets is a bit much all at once, so if they're falling to the bottom before he gets to them, I can see why he's interested in them in the rocks!
I would back off on the amount of food for a few days and clean the tank well to remove all the uneaten food that's already down there. Ideally, the betta will eat all that you offer within a minute or two and nothing will be wasted.
