Personally, I probably would break it down more than into 3 compartments. Watching mine swim around in their wider individual tanks, I don't think they'd be all that comfortable in the narrow areas in a 4 section 10 gallon.
On the divider note, if you're going to make your own, doing the plastic canvas ones would be alot cheaper and easier (I think) than getting the three sheets of plexiglass cut down and then drilling holes in the three. Plastic canvas is about 75 cents US in any craft store (I bet walmart carries it too) and those report covers are easily found as well. And you can make larger holes in the canvas with a pair of sissors or sharp knife. But if you get small filters for each compartment, you wouldn't need to worry about enlarging the holes.
Having recently outfited a 10 gallon, the cheaper method appeals to me more, since everything else is going to cost a good bit. Or there's the lazier route of buying the premade dividers for 10 gallon, but you'll still have a water flow issue with the divider.

i dont mind the work with the pexi glass i think it would be worth it in the end and if theres nto enough room i can up the tank to a 15 gallon which will give the fishes more then 2 gallons in each compartments

Don't bother dividing a 10 gallon into any more than 3 sections. Homemade or pre-made dividers will effectively be an equal restriction to water flow -- your greater concern is how to set up the circulation pattern. Check out this for ideas on how to set up the filtration: s94779296.onlinehome.us/website/Fish/articles/dividedtank.html
