I went home over the weekend and when I got back the temp of my tank had dropped about 5 degrees. Because of the colder weather right now and the fact that the college is trying to save money and doesn't have the heaters on at all my room is really chilly but my heater hasn't had trouble in the past. Luckly my girls are both ok but I want to get the temp up right away. So I have a couple of questions.
My tank is a 5.5 gallon divided with two girls. The heater is a hagen 25w which I have been told should be able to heat a 5 gallon. It also has a clear free filter.
My first question is, I have another hagen 25w heater. Could I put that in there with the other heater without frying anything? Or do I have to get a stronger heater?
My second question is, what would be a good heater for this tank if I have to get a different one?
Thanks!

why don't you just swap the current heater with the other one? I'd be afraid of two heaters in the tank. But if there's no known problems with the back up, you should try it alone first.
I have hydor theos and a visi-therm stealth and both are working great for me. I put in a 50 watt in my 5 gallon minibow, but a 25 should work also, I'd think.

Have you tried turning the heater up a notch? I tend to find that if I set my heater when the room is relatively warm, the water temp will drop a few degrees when there is a cold spell and I end up having to turn my heater up a notch. I don't think you should put another heater in as it may overheat the tank and other problems may occur. HTH
