I have a number of your basic plastic (I'm guess that's what they're made of) plants that I bought from Petco (they weren't cheap, either!). I've read many threads mentioning bettas resting on the leaves of real plants. I'm not particularly eager to have live plants in my tank, but I do want to give my betta the option of resting on a plant leaf if he wants. I've never seen him "use" the artificial plants I've placed in the tank. Perhaps their edges or overall texture are not smooth enough. I'm considering buying some SeaGarden silk plants. Has anyone seen a betta resting on the leaves of a silk plant?

Yes, mine sit on their silk leaves all the time. It might be the type of plastic ones you got too. My mom's would use his plastic and my Dude used to use his plastic one as well. Both have medium sized leaves with good branching, and mostly they'd sit in the v where the leaf came off the stem. If it's smaller (or hornwort styled) it might not have enough space to sit on. My one isn't a big sitter on leaves anyways, even though he inherited the plastic plant from Dude and has a couple nice banana plants.

Like sawcat said, mine seem to like the plastic plants with a medium sized leaf and some sit in the fork of the plant where it joins to the stem...a couple of others sit right on the leaf itself, and others ignore them altogether...I think it depends on the fish more than the plant. Maryrose

I agree with Maryrose...some bettas seek out hiding and resting places, others simply don't and you can switch out plants forever without getting them to use them I do worry less with the silk plants vs. plastic though... I have found a couple of my guys seem to like "camouflaging" themselves in similar-colored litem....before everyone jumps on this telling me that bettas are colorblind, well fine, I have no factual data on that, but empirical studies in my betta tanks clearly demonstrate a correlation....Pentecost (red) used to love to snuggle into his reddish silk plant, while Mighty Man (dark blue) used to hide in his dark hidey hole and jump out to surprise me
