i was wondering the summer is comeing and i usualy like to have my air conditioner on i have 2 bettas and there each in a half gallon tank do i need to buy a heater??

you can't heat half gallons, you'd need to upgrade to something in the 2 gallon range for an adjustible heater (critter keepers work well). Those little 1/2 gallon things are very susceptible to temperature changes, so your bettas would probably appreciate being in a constant temperature, no matter the season.

Additionally, a 1/2 gallon tank really doesn't provide enough swimming room for a betta, and it needs to be changed too often to be effective housing.

so if i get a bigger tank and putt a heater in it i can run my ac?

Mos people recommend a min 2 gallon tank for using a heater. That way you wouldn't have to worry about the AC altering the temps too much. If money is an issue, look into a critter keeper, can get 2 3 gallon ones for the price of one 2.5 minibow kit.
