I have quite a few very pretty little shells that I've brought home from beaches around the world. I was wondering if it would be a problem to put them in my tank. Most of them are in jars and a few are on shelves. I've had them for ages. I think they'd look lovely in my tank, but after the misfortune I had with my first guy, I'd hate to do anything that might hurt the next guy I get. I certainly would give them a good soak in hot water, but don't know if they'd have anything in them that might not be good for him. I plan on setting up my tank again on Friday and letting it run while I'm gone next week and get a new little guy when I get back. thanks for any help!

Sea shells don't belong in your average freshwater tank. If you keep fish that prefer hard water and a high pH, then go ahead, but otherwise don't risk it.
