My red betta probably is the most changing fish ever. Today I noticed a new change, but this time it's a bit unusual.
He already has a strange (natural) modification in his dorsal fin, which has the normal shape *and* a perpendicular "appendix" as long as the fin itself located at about the middle back part, which is split itself in 3 parts in the end, and also there's the "tail split" which seems to have stopped for a while. It's not a full double-tail-like shape, but it has a noticeable split.
Today while doing some inspection before the water change of the red betta, I noticed something new: in his ventral fin, which already has grown lots of spikes in the bottom (both of my bettas have grown these spikes but the red is less evident, he's younger), there is something that looks like a subdivision (not rot, not rip) once more, but it is at the right side of the ventral fin, more or less like the "bifurcation" of the dorsal, as if it was an individual spike growing alone.
At first I was scared, I thought it could be some columnaris symptom or a hanging parasite , but it looks exactly like it's part of his fin (as thin as, as thick as, as rigid as), only that it is growing besides the "source" fin so to speak. Think of it as a new finger growing in your arm...
The bifurcation on the dorsal isn't too weird, as fins can grow in several shapes, but this "extra" part of the ventrals is really strange. I have to look at that more carefully tomorrow, with brighter lights but I'm 99.9 sure it's not a disease, just a mutation.
Also, there is some part at the very bottom of his tail (that doesnt have any spikes like the combtails - yet!) that is starting (or seems so) to grow more than the tail itself, like if a longer spike is starting there. I really can't tell how this fish will look like in a month...
