my guess would be that he doesn't like being alone...cories are shoaling fish, they like to be in gorups of at least 3...and get very skittish without buddies.

OK. so he needs some buddies.how many does he need and As twoluvcats said: they like to be in groups of at least 3. can I put them in my 10 gallon tank whith the other fish or am I over crowding? I think that 11 fish in a 10gallon is a few too many, especially since danio zebras get to be at least 2 inches long, bettas 3 or so, and depending on the type of tetra they can be 2 inches as well. Some cories can be 4 inches each as adults. I know the one inch of fish per gallon rule isn't gold, but a conservative estimate (assuming you have the smallest type of all the species you mentioned) would still put you at 20 inches of fish for a 10 gallon tank. Especially if you are new at this, then understocking is a safer way to go. JoAnna

Rather than throwing in some corys, consider adding an extra danio and maybe an extra tetra too.

I know this is an old post but I feel I have to respond. Randi you could get some long finned black tetras or if you wanted some blue groumies but make sure you don't put those groumies or the long finned black tetras in with a betta, it would be murder.
