I have a common pleco and last year I had him in a holding tank hanging on the inside of the tank and I woke up the next morning and found him underneath the tank stand. And surprisingly he was still alive so I put him back in. And he is still alive to this day. And until that happened he was namless so now his name is sucide. Does anyone have a simialir story with thier fish?

Well with this being a betta forum I'm sure a few people can unfortunately relate to their fish jumping right out of the tank. Bettas in particular are known for being jumpers. That's why it's so important to always have a cover over a betta's tank or any aquarium for that matter.

Knock on wood. In the twelve years I have been raising bettas, I have never had one jump out of their bowls. Now I have an aquarium with a hood that properly covers the tank so I don't have to worry about that. On the other hand though, my parents used to have a 55 gallon tank and the hood did not cover the whole tank and they had several different types of tropical fish jump out of the tank. So it is probably best to keep aquariums properly covered if you are planning on having fish as pets.

I had a fish jump into another's tank, pretty scary for the second or so it took me to get him back in his own! I have three tanks side by side, and I usually took all the covers off, and fed down the line one flake at a time. I feed them on the end of a toothpick, and they've ome to recognize it, so they jump at it as it nears the water. Apparently once, Ember saw the toothpick as it was above Colbalt's tank and leapt right into it! I keep my net right in front of the tanks, so I grabbed it and got him back in his own tank... but woah. I feed them one at a time now.

I would have totally freaked out if something like that happened. Good thing you had your net handy.

I had my first betta when I was 16 years old--"Fish Stick" was him name-o The guy at the pet store convinced me that they only need a small home, so I purchaced a tank that was probably 1/4 gallon (I know, I know I feel horrible about it to this day). Needless to say, he was a jumper. I would be too, if I couldn't even turn around. This little bowl had 2 sections (presumably for another betta?) and I had both filled up, and He was known to have jumped into the other section on occation. One day however, I had a crispy fish. Still makes me sad. The good thing is that I've learned from thoes mistakes I made 5 years ago, and my bettas now have nice covered homes
