I wouldn't put less than 4 females together in the same tank. It is normal for them to establish dominance when you first put them together. If there is only one submissive female, the dominant one will pick on her way too much and possibly kill her.

what if i put my 2 girls in a 10 gallon tank, will that give them enough room? when i put together at first, one was beating up on the other so we separated them. i wanted to try it a again, close to 2-3 weeks later and she would slap her with her tail and bite her if she bite her. the last attempt of them together caused one to get really upset and swim quickly all around the tank. oh, and how big do girls get?

Also, a fishbowl will not be big enough for two girls.
You'd need a large tank with a lot of room, plus plants to hide in/behind.
And I agree that 2 females make a bad combo. I think 3 might be okay, more is better. But not two.
And even if you do everything right, you still may end up with agression. It's just the way they are.

Holli, There is a thread (Non-Urgent /Jul 16th ) "The Gemstones Have Broken Up," w/several posts regarding female bettas' compatability (& sometimes lack thereof ).

I also have a thread under Non-Urgent called Female Free-for-all. I put 5 females together and they actually killed one of my girls before deciding who would be the big boss of the tank.
I really really wouldn't try this, even in a ten gallon unless you get one or two more females and provide plenty of hiding places.
I forgot to add, if you want to put these two in a 10 gallon tank and don't want to get more fish, you could just get a divider for it so they can't pick on one another.

I started the "Gemstones Have Broken Up" thread. What an experience it was for me. Read it and learn .... It really doesn't take two to tango in the Betta world. They are in seperate bowls but right next to each other. So now they can flare, tease, and have fun with each other without all the finsticuffs
