I haven't posted here for awhile, but I haven't forgotten this spot, and now I have a question.
My boyfriend just got a job -- nay, not just a job, THE JOB he wanted (YAAAAY!) and we're moving later this month. It's going to involve a drive of about six hours, unfortunately. I'm now down to one betta, Phil (I lost Attila on Christmas Eve to some mysterious illness), and he'll be going in my car so I can keep an eye on him if necessary. Any ideas on how to pack him so he's relatively comfy? Cold weather is probably not going to be an issue, but all that vibration for a poor lil' betta can't be fun. I'd like to not stress him out any more than I have to, but the drive is unavoidable.
This is, aside from the packing and sorting, a VERY GOOD THING for us. I couldn't be happier for my sweetie. I can't wait to have this move over with, though...I like living someplace new, but I HAAAATE the process of moving.

Put him in a bag, in a box, in a cooler with a bag of water that's the same temperature as the fish's water. That should do it.

and don't feed him for 24 hours b4 you go...that will keep him from pooping in his travel water.

I should add that I have successfully transported mine using quart size, gladlock freezer bags. Don't use any others because you might be asking for leaks *cough* Ziplock *cough*
Fill them about 1/3 the way with water, and the rest with as much air as you can get in (use a closing technique that maximizes the air inside.)

your lfs should be able to give you some fish bags (even walmart or petsmart)

I was going to see about getting a couple of fish bags, and I came across the perfect box, so all I'd need is a small cooler or something. No problem there. He ought to do fine. I mean, he's going to be mad at me, but he's a betta.

As everyone is saying here I also agree using a Bag is the only way to go. A container will tend to slosh the water around and his ride will be miserable. A bag will obsorb most of the vibrations. Good luck with your trip and your BF's new job.

Well, the move was a month and a half ago, and all went pretty well, though he did lose a bunch of fin after I got him here. But he's doing well now, and so is my boyfriend's job...and I have an interview for one Tuesday, yay, it's about time!
