Ok...Because bettas are labyrinth fish, I know they can be kept in an uncycled, unfiltered hosptial tank. But what about non-labyrinth fish? Can you keep them in a small tank with an airstone, changing the water every few days, for treatment?

Yes, and no.
In theory, you could do tons of water changes to keep the water quality acceptable, but in practicality, it's better, and easier to have a cycled tank on hand. Maybe something that houses snails or shrimp to keep the cycle going.

ok...I've been trying to get my hands on a used 10 gallon for free/cheap to make my baby snail grow out tank/hospital tank...but I haven't been able to find one. Guess I'll just suck it up and pay the $15 at wally. LOL

$15 is a little steep for a 10 gallon. Although lots of retailers have raised their 10 gallon tank prices. As if they were any more expensive to make...

ya, well, welcome to western colorado LOL...we pay more for everything...gas is STILL $2.29 a gallon here (for low grade!!), even tho over in denver its dropped to $1.90.
Wally didn't have anything but the $40 10 gallon kits...and I didn't need anything in it...but I did find one at the tiny pet store a couple towns over for $14 **sigh**

I'd buy one here and ship it to you, but it would cost just as much

Ya, 5 gallon tank kits are still about $35-40 here...$50 for a good one. But a tank alone (no lid, light, or filter) should be $15 or less.

At our LPS your looking at $75 for a five gallon Eclipse and $120 for a ten gallon tank, but you can get a ten gallon starter at Wal Mart for $60 I do believe. I'm not that far from you, Cheart99.

I know what you guys mean about the cost of tanks here in Canada but maybe the cost will go down since the dollar has gone up (likely not but here's wishing).
