Someone at a fish store told me Stress Coat was the same as Cycle. Is this true? If not, what use does Stress Coat have, as I have a bottle now.

Nope, they have two different uses:
Stress coat: a water conditioner that deals with chlorine, and heavy metals. You still need a separate product if you want to properly deal with chloramine.
Cycle: A product that helps speed the establishment of the nitrogen cycle by introducing nitrifying bacteria. Works in saltwater well, but has a negligible effect on freshwater due to the type of bacteria contained within.

Well, I plan on cycling my tank without fish. So whats the best additive that I can find in a LPS that helps introduce nitrifying bacteria?

bio spira is very hard to find in LPS or at least where I live. I gave up, so now my 10 gallon is cycling without any starter bacteria. at around day 10 I should start to see nitrites and at around day 28 nitrates.

If you go to your LFS and ask for some gravel from one of their tanks I'm sure they'd be mroe than happy to give you some. In the year 2005, 28 days is a long time for a cycle...this isn't the 1970s anymore  |

LOL ;D I am very aware of that but here are my reasons why i decided to cycle with no starter bacterial colony: 1. I need more time to decide the layout of the tank. 2. I am very interested in having anacharis in my tank but my LPS is out of it, they will probably have it in about 1-2 weeks. 3.I mysteriously feel better when I know that I have lots of time ahead and don't have to do every thing in one shot, LOL I guess that is just me!  |
