Airstones

Do you have to change airstones on a regular basis or does one last for a long time? I have the blue ones by Aquatic gardens that Petco sells. One is in with the platy who's getting her treatment, and I was planing on having one in each of the 2 gallon containers for the bettas, in one corner, for a little movemnt (I have air control valves, so I can turn it down for them). Also will depend if the whisper filter's pump can handle three items, but I'll cross that one when I get there.

Eventually they start to become brittle and crumble, but they should last for a few years at a time.

you have airstones in addition to the whisper mini filter? how do you like it? what does it do? just move the water more?

Air pumps help improve the water circulation and gas exchange at the surface of the water (oxygen in, carbon dioxide out.)

Turns out the little airpump that came with my 1-3 gallon filter (it's not that monster one that came with the minibow) couldn't handle 2 airstones and a filter. So the minibow has the filter and the keeper has the airstone. I see Mr Cellophane swimming around it and through the bubbles so I think he likes it. I got another pump so I could put an airstone in the betta side of the 10 gallon after having the algae start and once I read about that some. The divider there blocks alot of the current caused by the filter. Since I plan on getting more plants, it seemed like a good thing. They're just those 1 inch airstones, so its not so much the betta can't avoid it.
