I just got a Betta and an Eclipse 3 a couple days ago, and he's doing awesome in the tank so far. But what with all the reading on these forums I'm mildly concerned about the "cycling" and its effects on his new home:
Eclipse 3 (3 gallon tank w/ carbon and floss filtration and "bio wheel") Tapwater treated w/ Stress Coat and aged overnight (or longer) Temperature 80-82 deg F Live plants Gravel Rock and small flowerpot to serve as a "hidey hole"
I do not have any water testing kits at the moment, so I thought I'd ask... Do I need to be concerned about Merlin's water quality, i.e. change a certain % of the water every couple of days for a while? Should I be testing the water so I know how well the tank is "cycling"? Or can I just leave it alone most of the time and do partial water changes once a week?

Until you can get test kits, do a 33% water change every 3 days.
