When I resetup my tank, I want to replace the carbon in my filter cartridge instead of the whole cartridge, rinsing the material part thoroughly and replacing the carbon with fresh carbon.
However, when I was checking out the media, I saw Ammo-carb, which is carbon with ammonia filtering material. Has anyone used it? Any benefits/disadvantages?
I want to put plants in my tank as well and wondered if it would have an effect on that.
thanks!

Carbon does actually take out some trace nutrients that plants need, and the ammonia absorbing resin also takes away their food.
It's fine in most tanks, but if you want a moderately planted tank then avoid using it.
