OK so i bought six guppies yesterday. unfortunately at least 2 of them are sick. A female has fungus on her fin. fortunately it is premature and may go away with my water quality. Then there is another one that has something under him, not sure what it is but I'd say its like a fuzzy cotton like, columnaris? Then there is another one who isn't necessarily sick nut likes to hang near the surface, he eats plays and is active and no sign of decease. all of them are way too active! You guys think they will be ok?

My initial advice is always to return them to the store when you know they're sick.
However, if you want to treat them put some salt into the water to start -- a teaspoon per gallon. Sodium chloride or magnesium sulfate will work. Don't worry about anti-caking agents.
As for what's growing on their bodies, you'll have to determine whether it's fungus or columnaris -- fungus is filamentous in nature, while columnaris is shapeless. If you can come back with a description, I can prescribe a course of treatment.

well...I think I Will treat them instead of returning them. I think what is growing on their body may be fungus, it has a filamentous structure, oval shaped, and it isn't in an unpredictable shape. I think I will add some salt tomorrow. by the way, do you think there is something wrong with the guppy that likes to be near the surface? He seems in good condition. And should I add the dissolved salt all at once?

Add in 1/3 of the total salt dose every 2 hours till you hit the full dosage. (1 teaspoon per gallon)
What medications do you have on hand?

You guys think they will be ok? Since you've decided not to take the guppies back, maybe you can let the store manager know about the problem (preferably in writing). It sounds like they need to take better care and quarentine and treat the guppies. Good luck.

well, I returned 2 and left the other 4 that are healthy in my aquarium, they are doing great and I just got 3 more, they are in my Q.tank. and instead or writing a letter and telling them that their tanks are in bad conditions I went and told them to their faces, that is better, their tanks are a little better now.=)
