My angelfish has developed a cloudy eye. Its not protruding, but i can tell by the way that he's been acting that he can't see out of it. It looks like a cataract. Is this a treatable disease? Would melafix be something that would help it? I'm at a loss. He's eating, and active. I actually didn't notice it right away, cause he always looks at me with his good eye. But a friend noticed tonight that there was something wrong with it

Well, I figured out it is a fungus...so he's in my hospital tank getting treated with a Melafix/Pimafix combo. We are on day 4 and he still can't see out of the eye...it makes feeding time oh so interesting LOL
Here's a question...do fish have reactionary pupils like land vertebrates do? In my blind dog's worst eye the pupil is open all the way...he can't see a speck out of that eye. In contrast, on my angel's bad eye, the 'pupil' is constricted and smaller than the eye that works. Its just something I noticed and it got me thinking.

I'm pretty sure that some fish do have size-changing pupils, although you probably won't notice it unless you really look for it. Some don't, and I don't know exactly which ones do or don't As for your fish, thee eye tissue is probably swollen though, which is causing the pupil size to change.

That seems to be it. Yesterday was the first day I saw some improvement in his eye. The pupil is slightly bigger...and he seems to be seeing shadows out of the eye at least.
Feeding is still a challenge...he gets confused and sees the food falling in the reflection on the glass and tries to go get it in the reflection, instead of turning around and actually getting it <sigh> poor guys nose must be sore from banging on the glass. Ahhhh, angelfish...they're pretty, but not very bright LOL

Smaller fish tend not to be that bright

So...the cloudiness is about gone...but the vision is still pretty sketchy...He's been in melafix/pimafix since the 13th...should i keep treating till his vision improves, or just until the cloudiness goes away?

Keep treating till a few days after the cloudyness goes away.
