thanks everyone for the help with the my adventurer fish. While at the pet store, I decided to cement my love for bettas and buy my very own betta!!!
His name is Phoenix, and I picked him out quickly because he was so active (despite the small bowl), and had a very large bubble nest assembled! He's so cute and wonderful, and I adore him. He's currently in his bag, floating in the new bowl, as I adjust the bag water with my own. I feel sorry for the little guy, he keeps nudging the bag which is next to the live plant!
Question regarding food: My roomate sometimes gives them freeze dried grubs. I have never seen these mentioned here, I only see worms mentioned. Anyone have any opinions about grubs? Or what I foods might make my new guy really happy?? I want him to live like a king!

as a treat for the new guy i would suggest first getting him happly eating regular foods then every so offten give him some or the white mosquito larva that San Fransisco brand puts up ... my guys and gals reallllly gobble them up and not one of them has ever even looked 2 times at them its jsut an accatcha dn gobble food ... io think its inbread in ohem to eat mosquito larva as its a food that their wild ancesters ate probably as a base for their main food ..... congrats on phoenix glad to hear he's found a good home. my ex-roomate got hooked on bettas after taking care of wedge when i was away...now we share foods and bettasit as for the bio-gold, wedge had the same issue...he would happily munch away at betta bites, but he'd spit out the bio-gold. i kept feeding him the bio-gold, catching them when he spit them out, and eventually he started swallowing them. now he'll eat either. bettas can be picky about new foods, so it takes patience to start them on new ones, although i've never had problems starting a betta on betta bites. (they claim to contain an "appetite stimulating formula" or something...no idea what that is.) i think grubs may be the same thing as bloodworms. anyone know for sure?
